Chimney Sweep, Caps & Repair in Anaheim, CA Flatlands to foothills

  • Open six days, closed Saturday
  • Photos before any work
  • Floors protected during visits

Anaheim grew from 14,556 people in 1950 to over 104,000 by 1960, and West Anaheim is still lined with the tract homes from that boom. The foothill neighborhoods came later. We sweep, cap and repair chimneys from both eras.

Three building eras

One city, very different chimneys

German families from San Francisco founded Anaheim in 1857 as a vineyard colony, and the Anaheim Colony district downtown holds the oldest housing in town. Disneyland opened in July 1955, and the farmland around it turned into neighborhoods within a decade. Brick chimneys from that rush are now around seventy years old, and their mortar joints and crowns show it. West Anaheim's tracts are where we see the most of these older brick stacks, often with original dampers that no longer close tightly.

Anaheim Hills is a different story. Most of it was built in the 1970s after Texaco Industries took over the Nohl Ranch land, and it is described as the first development to use landform grading. Homes sit on slopes, and some use factory-built fireplaces with metal flues in wood-framed chases instead of solid masonry; the tech confirms which kind you have. Those systems need their own checks: the chase cover, the termination cap and the joints in the metal pipe. A replacement chase cap is a common outcome.

Plain answers

Findings first, your call after

A visit ends with the tech showing you what turned up, in photos, and telling you which items affect safety and which can wait. You choose what gets done. Crews head out from our Laguna Niguel office, and the phone is answered early and late on every day we're open.

How it works

Call, look, decide

  1. 01

You call or send the form

Say what you've noticed and what kind of fireplace you have. Gas or wood changes what we bring.

  2. 02

    A tech goes through it

Firebox, flue, roof and crown are checked in order, and whatever turns up is walked through with you in plain terms.

  3. 03

    You pick the work

Some visits end with a sweep. Others need a cap, a crown or masonry. Nothing extra starts until you say yes.

Fire and ground

Embers and moving slopes on the east side

The east end has burned more than once. In November 2008 the Freeway Complex Fire pushed into Anaheim Hills from Corona, forcing 3,100 homes in the Weir Canyon area to evacuate and destroying 14 houses and 86 apartments there. In October 2017 Canyon Fire 2 started near the 91 and 241 interchange and, driven by strong wind and low humidity, destroyed 25 homes in Anaheim Hills and Orange. Of everything on the roof, the spark-arrestor screen on the cap is one detail an owner can actually control.

The ground matters too. A 1993 landslide in Anaheim Hills destroyed more than 30 homes, and a 2005 slide on Ramsgate Drive took three more. Most houses never see that, but slow settling on graded lots can crack a chimney at the roof or pull it from the wall. A gap between stack and siding deserves a look. Settling cracks also let rain into the masonry, so the fix may combine brick repair with new flashing.

My Anaheim Hills house has a metal flue, not brick. Does it still need service?

It does. Factory-built fireplaces vent through a metal pipe inside a framed chase, topped by a sheet-metal chase cover and a cap. Rust on that cover lets rain run down the inside of the chase, and a damaged cap screen is an ember risk on wind days. The tech checks the pipe joints, cover and cap, then tells you whether repair work is needed or just a cleaning.

We were evacuated during Canyon Fire 2. Should the chimney be checked after a nearby fire?

It's worth a look. Heat, ash and wind-blown debris can damage a cap screen or leave material sitting in the flue, and fire crews or ladders on the roof sometimes knock flashing loose. An inspection after a nearby fire checks the cap, crown and flue so you know the fireplace is safe before you light it again.

Our West Anaheim house is from the late 1950s. What usually wears out first?

On brick chimneys of that age, the crown and the top courses of mortar usually go first, because they take the most sun and rain. After that, look at flashing and the damper. Many of these flues were built with clay tile liners that can crack over time, and the camera shows whether yours has.

How long does a typical sweep take?

It depends on the buildup and how easy the roof is to reach, so we don't quote a time by phone. The tech lays drop cloths, sweeps from the firebox and the top as needed, vacuums, and reviews the findings with you before leaving.

Do you work on Saturday?

No, Saturday is our day off. The other six days are open for booking, with phones staffed from dawn to late evening. Sunday visits are popular with families in the hills who commute during the week, so it helps to call a few days ahead.
